A painting I have to paint

This is a rough painting on velum. I'm exploring how to paint this. Spenser was our dog and had a great life. Maybe I should just paint and let it happen. I have been putting this off long enough.

Boston Harbor Islands 2

Parts of the harbor islands can take you to a time gone by. When I go there it transports me to a calm and peaceful place. The rangers that live there experience what most don't. They can see the Boston skyline—but it is a world far removed. I wish I had a boat so I could visit anytime.

Hoping

Prints

I added a link to the right for some prints. LINK. I think the best option is --Matte Print UV. These prints have non fade inks (100+ years) and the quality is excellent.

Painting outside

To me painting outside is tough and I have to work on it. I had two days painting outside with a group from the RIWS. The first day was cloudy and cool and I almost fell into the river. Followed by a sunny day at an apple orchard and still had slow paper drying. These will have to be converted to studio paintings, Another show is coming up—"Winter Wonderland" and don't want to miss it.

RIWS National Juried Show

The Rhode Island Watercolor Society's National Juried Show is underway—October 4-29.

Just getting over cold/flu?? I had no energy for over a week. I now feel like I can start painting again.

Thoughts

My pallette is drying out. Not really because I am using Holbein paint. :)
As you know, I do Graphic Design and it is either feast or famine. Lately the flood gates opened and have taken a lot of my time--it helps pay the bills. These gates will close, as they always do and that will give me more time to paint. I think it's time to decide what is important.

New show

I recently joined the ALL, Arts League of Lowell, MA. The current show has two of my paintings.

Exploring

Exploring a possible new painting of Lovells Island, Boston Harbor. This is a nice place if your enjoy walking the beach. The building was used to store oil for the navigational lights... it's slowly vanishing.

When you leave the Navy, it is kind of surreal. All your work ends, but the ship goes on ...gives you an empty feeling.

New Art Show

I submitted 3 watercolor paintings to the juried art show at "Amazing Things", Framingham, MA. All three were accepted and this one received an Honorable Mention Ribbon.

Now I think I have all the elements in this painting that I want, So far things are going ok. Not too late to ruin it. I have to decide how far I want to take this. There is a show coming up and it would be nice to include this. Time to refine all this...pull it together. :)

Rhode Island Watercolor Society

I just joined the Rhode Island Watercolor Society. This Sunday starts their current juried watercolor show. I submitted 3 paintings and 2 were juried into the show.

Trouble posting to Blogger...

I had a lot of trouble posting here on Blogspot. I just could not get to the login page—Mac's spinning beach ball. I had to go to another computer to post, a real pain. I was trying to figure out what was the problem and then one night, I remembered how bad fonts could/would really mess up your system...hmm. So I went in and shut off all the weird fonts, which I don't use anyway, and it worked! Now I am back in business—for now anyway. You have any problems like this?

More Mystic

Some more layout work for placement of the elements...parts that were covered up or lost while painting. This a black ship and it will present a problem as I go...you think? Also have to get it off the block so I can start another.

Taking it slow.Thinking about where this is going...trying to get the air down first. A very critical step for me, I'm also working on the DSFDF farm scene challenge.

This place is where the New England Aquarium releases seals back to the ocean...not the real name. I changed the scene a lot as I painted it...aristic license. :)
I watched a released seal by these rocks and wondered... it seemed lost...like, where am I. I hope it made it ok!

Spenser

The loss of our pet/family member has effected me more than I imagined it would. I made sure his last days were comfortable and it was extremely hard to take him to the vet. He was having a very hard time and it was for the best. I have been going through tons of photos trying to find something that will show how he was and to capture his spirit. I'll try to show some progress.

My companion of 13 years has gone to the great beyond...I really miss him. I plan to paint a tribute to him for my wife in the coming weeks...stay tuned.
